What is an orthopedic dog bed?
Orthopedic dog beds have a thicker, more padded base than other dog beds, which helps relieve the pressure on your dog’s joints when they are using it. Many orthopedic beds use a memory foam mattress as they are firm and adjust to your dog’s sleeping position. But, other beds with a thick, good quality base will also offer orthopedic support.
Are orthopedic dog beds worth it?
The are absolutely worth it! A good night’s sleep is as important for dogs as it is for humans, and for older dogs who may have joint pain or arthritis, an orthopedic bed can be a great way to relieve joint pain or discomfort.
Do dogs like memory foam beds?
Yes, they love curling up in a firm but comfortable bed. Many dogs will prefer sleeping on your firm-but-cosy sofa over sleeping on the hard floor, so memory foam beds are a great way to encourage dogs of all ages to use their own space.
What’s the difference between memory foam beds and other dog beds?
Dog beds can be filled with a range of different materials, some of which can wear over time making the bed less comfortable. Memory foam is a more rigid foam and less susceptible to wearing out, which means they can retain their shape and quality for longer. While this does mean a slightly higher price tag, the bed will generally last longer.

The premium grade memory foam mattress is ideal for older dogs who might be suffering from joint pain or arthritis and the company boasts that it is “possibly the most comfortable dog bed in the world”. 2. Bedsure Memory Foam Dog Bed
The Bedsure memory foam bed is a great budget dog bed for people who are looking for a robust product at a great price. The sofa design is a great way to encourage your dog off your sofa and into their own bed – and for owners of large dogs, that’s going to free up a lot of sofa space for you!
The outer cover is made from a faux linen fabric which is resistant to stains, hairs and doesn’t easily absorb liquids, which is great for keeping the bed clean and fresh. The sleeping area is covered with micro-sherpa (which is a fleece style fabric made from polyester), which is warm and cost for your dog and also covers part of the raised sides. The cover can be removed and easily machined washed.
The base is a 2.5 inch memory foam mattress and while that isn’t quite as thick as other beds here (some go up to 10 inches), this is good for medium to large dogs and still an excellent purchase for the low price.

3. The Dog’s Bed Orthopedic Dog Bed
We’ve featured several beds from The Dog’s Bed, and this is the second one in this guide. They are wonderfully constructed and high quality dog’s beds which make them a great choice for dog owners. This orthopedic mattress doesn’t have the raised sides that the other model does, but some dogs will prefer having a raised platform to sprawl out on.
This bed comes with two cover options – a lovely plush cover (featured in the image to the left) is soft and warm, making it ideal for the colder winter months. When the warmer days come along, you can swap it for a simple linen cover which is cooler. Both are easily removable and machine washable.
The memory foam mattress is one of the thickest of all the beds we’ve covered here, and the range of size options means that this is a great choice for larger dogs. The upper layer of the mattress is high quality orthopedic foam, which sits on top of a further 4 inches of support foam. This creates a firm but comfortable bed for any dog, but is particularly helpful for older dogs suffering from joint pain. The orthopedic support will give them a good night’s sleep and the raised bed means they can simply step out of it rather than having to struggle to their feet in the morning.
- High quality memory foam (2 inch orthopedic foam on 4 inch base support foam).
- Waterproof inner cover.
