Description
Setting up a natural freshwater aquascape and looking for structure and hiding places? This hand-selected porous driftwood offers natural holes and channels that create swim-throughs and sheltered spots for betta, shrimp, pleco and cichlids. It works well as a focal hardscape in medium aquaria and can also be used dry in terrarium displays for reptiles.
Made from untreated hardwood with no paint or resin, the piece arrives with lightly sanded edges and a small sheet of sandpaper so you can fine-tune fit and remove any sharp points. A clear preparation routine is provided: boil for 30 to 60 minutes, then soak in fresh water and change the water daily until the wood sinks and tannins clear. Tannins are natural and may be desirable for blackwater-style setups; otherwise regular water changes or activated carbon will reduce their colour. The porous surface also provides extra grazing surface and microhabitat for shrimp and biofilm-loving organisms, helping to add depth and natural behaviour opportunities in planted or shrimp tanks.
