Choosing the right bed for your puppy
Do puppies need beds?
Absolutely! Puppies sleep for a large portion of the day, so it’s important for them to have somewhere of their own to curl up in. It helps settle new puppies into their environment as they’ll have somewhere of their own to snooze.
A good bed helps encourage positive behaviour too
When training dogs, it’s important to establish routines and boundaries – they’ll remember these patterns and quickly begin to follow them. By providing them with a safe and warm place of their own to sleep, they’ll begin to favour the dog bed over your furniture.
All beds designed for puppies are machine washable
It’s normal for puppies to have accidents from time to time (and for some to drool more than most!), so it’s important that their bed is easily cleaned and kept free from germs and odours. All of the puppy beds below are machine washable.
Consider what size your puppy will be when fully grown
Smaller dogs can continue to use the same bed as they grow, but larger ones might find their puppy bed a bit too small for them. It’s fine to opt for a slightly larger bed and let your puppy grow into it, particularly if you’re spending a lot on the bed.
1. Urijk Soft Bed for Puppies
This lovely little bed for puppies and small pets from Urijk comes in a range of 6 different colour options and at a low cost, which means it’s great for dog owners who may be on a budget.
The exterior of the bed is lined with Oxford fabric and the interior is a soft and warm fleece. The bed is stuffed with polypropylene foam, which is firm enough to retain its shape but soft enough to be comfortable. The bed arrives in a compressed package (like a memory foam mattress) and may take a little while to regain it’s natural shape. The entire bed can be put in the washing machine to clean.
The small, soft bed is great for puppies and the raised edges means they can feel safe and secure when sleeping and can also act as makeshift pillow to lounge on. This means there are loads of options for your puppy to curl up against the edges or resting on top of them, ensuring a good night’s sleep.
- Machine washable.
- Padded foam interior lined with fleece.
- Non-slip base.
When you’re buying a bed for a large dog breed, you don’t want to spend too much money as they’ll grow out of it pretty quickly. This budget puppy bed is a great choice.

3. Tofern Pet Igloo for Puppies
The Tofern Pet Igloos are a range of lovely little enclosed beds for puppies and other small pets. They come in a range of 5 different multicoloured patterns which are striking and would make a delightful addition to any room.
Igloo dog beds like these are great for smaller pets who may be a little bit timid. The enclosed space means your puppy has their own little room to snuggle up in and they won’t be disturbed by distractions outside of their field of vision. This creates a secure space for them to relax in.
The super-soft cotton and fleece material provides and warm and cost place for your puppy to sleep in, and the bed doesn’t have any hard parts (like a frame), so they won’t hurt themselves. This does mean that if the bed loses its shape (e.g. when being transported), it might take a little longer to recover, but the material is robust enough that it will do eventually. The inner cushion can be removed and machine-washed, but the main bed should be hand-washed or aired outside.
